The Catholic-Labor Network is dependent on interested persons sharing their activities struggles, victories and prayers with other like minded men and women of faith.

We strongly invite all those who visit this page, and who share  a common interest in issues effecting the Catholic Church and the Labor Movement to subscribe.  Occasionally, notices will be sent when this page is updated.  When important events happen, we will pass on the information through the e-mail list, and most of all, the e-mail list is a means by which we can pray and support each other.

Notes on the Catholic-Labor Network Lunch at the Catholic Social Ministry Gathering (February 22, 2004)

Dear Friends:

Tom Shellabarger (tshellabarger@usccb.org), an active Catholic-Labor Network member and a staff member in the Office of Social Development of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has seen that the Catholic-Labor Network will again be part of the 2004 Catholic Social Ministry Gathering in Washington, D.C. The SMG will be February 20-25, 2004, in Washington, D.C. Full information and registration can be found at: www.usccb.org/sdwp/csmg04.htm.

As part of the SMG, the Catholic-Labor Network will be hosting a “wrap-around” lunch on Sunday, February 22, 2004. The lunch will be $15.00, and can be paid through the web site: www.yesevents.com/social/. Tom has set up a great light lunch, and a quality speaker program for us. In addition, there are number of SMG workshops that will be of interest to many of us. Specifically, on Tuesday morning, Clean Clothes! Promoting Worker Justice through Anti-Sweatshop Campaigns will be offered. This workshop addresses the anti-sweatshop movement sweeping through Catholic high schools and colleges, and how we as Catholics can build on the success of this growing movement for worker justice?

In addition, we are organizing an additional event on Sunday morning. Though the plans are still not set, it will probably take the form of attending Mass together at one of the Capital Hill parishes, and then retiring to a local bakery or restaurant for brunch and conversation. Details will be forth coming. However, I will post the information to the Catholic-Labor Web site (www.catholiclabor.org), and also have another mailout before the event. In the meantime, you can contact me at 409-985-8010 (St. John Catholic Church) or at 409-749-0171 (cellular phone) for more information.

I hope that if you are already attending the SMG, that you will join us at the Sunday luncheon, and if you are not but in the Washington, D.C. area at that time, that you will take part in our different activities.

Your brother in Christ,

Fr. Sinclair Oubre, J.C.L.
